FACTORS AFFECTING FARMERS EXTENSION NEEDS FOR INTEGRATED FARMING TO REPLACE ANIMAL FEED MAIZE IN MAECHAEM DISTRICT, CHIANGMAI PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study: (1) the personal, economic, and social characteristics of maize farmers; (2) farmers’ knowledge and attitudes towards the promotion of integrated farming; (3) the demand for promoting integrated farming as a substitute for maize cultivation; (4) the factors influencing the demand for promoting integrated farming instead of maize cultivation; and (5) the problems, obstacles, and suggestions related to maize farming. The population used in this research consisted of maize farmers in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province, who were registered with the Mae Chaem District Agricultural Office across seven sub-districts, totaling 7,526 households in 2023. The sample size was 281 households. The researcher selected samples from each sub-district using simple random sampling with proportional allocation. Data were collected using questionnaires, and the analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.

The results revealed that most respondents were male, with an average age of 47 years. The majority had completed primary education, were married, and engaged in agriculture as their main occupation. Their primary source of capital was the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC). The average monthly income was 9,564.95 baht, while the average monthly expenditure was 6,553.20 baht. The average landholding was 13.44 rai, and the average duration of residence in the community was 43.41 years. Farmers had an average of 18.13 years of experience in monoculture farming and only 0.86 years of experience in integrated farming. On average, they attended integrated farming training and field visits 0.86 times per year, and received agricultural knowledge from various media about 7.71 times per year.

In terms of knowledge, farmers had a high level of knowledge regarding the promotion of integrated farming as a substitute for maize cultivation (mean = 10.10). Regarding attitudes, farmers showed a strongly positive attitude. In terms of demand, farmers expressed a high level of demand for promoting integrated farming in all six aspects studied. Factors influencing the demand for promoting integrated farming instead of maize cultivation among farmers in Mae Chaem District included age and marital status, which had a statistically significant positive effect at the 0.05 level, and attitudes, which had a statistically significant positive effect at the 0.01 level. As for problems and obstacles, land preparation was identified as a moderate-level problem. This was due to the district’s highland and sloping terrain, which made land adjustment for integrated farming costly and time-consuming. In addition, soil degradation was common in areas continuously cultivated with maize, mainly due to the use of chemicals and the burning of crop residues.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษา 1) ลักษณะส่วนบุคคล เศรษฐกิจ และสังคมของเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ 2) ความรู้และทัศนคติของเกษตรต่อการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสาน 3) ความต้องการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสานแทนการปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ 4) ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความต้องการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสานแทนการปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ของเกษตรกร และ 5) ปัญหา อุปสรรคและข้อเสนอแนะต่อการปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ ประชากร ที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์อำเภอแม่แจ่ม จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ที่ขึ้นทะเบียนเกษตรกผู้ปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์กับสำนักงานเกษตรอำเภอแม่แจ่ม 7 ตำบล จำนวน 7,526 ครัวเรือน ที่ขึ้นทะเบียนใน ปี 2566 ขนาดของกลุ่มตัวอย่าง จำนวน 281 ครัวเรือน ผู้วิจัยได้สุ่มตัวอย่างเกษตรกรแต่ละตำบลโดยการสุ่มแบบง่าย แบบเป็นสัดส่วนของประชากร เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบแบบทดสอบ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ สถิติพรรณนาและการวิเคราะห์ถดถอยพหุ (Multiple Regression Analysis)

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า เกษตรกรกลุ่มตัวอย่าง ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศชาย มีอายุเฉลี่ย 47 ปี ส่วนใหญ่ มีการศึกษาในระดับประถมศึกษา มีสถานภาพการสมรส ทำอาชีพเกษตรกรรมเป็นหลัก แหล่งเงินทุนของเกษตรกรมาจากธนาคารเพื่อการเกษตรและสหกรณ์การเกษตร รายได้เฉลี่ย 9,564.95 บาทต่อเดือน รายจ่ายเฉลี่ย 6,553.20 บาทต่อเดือน มีพื้นที่ถือครองเฉลี่ย 13.44 ไร่ ระยะเวลาที่อาศัยอยู่ในชุมชนเฉลี่ย 43.41 ปี มีประสบการณ์ในการเกษตรเชิงเดี่ยว เฉลี่ย 18.13 ปี มีประสบการณ์ในการเกษตรผสมผสาน เฉลี่ย 0.86 ปี มีประสบการณ์อบรมและดูงานการทำเกษตรผสมผสาน เฉลี่ย 0.86 ครั้งต่อปี การได้รับความรู้ด้านการเกษตรจากสื่อต่างๆ เฉลี่ย 7.71 ครั้งต่อปี ด้านความรู้ เกษตรกรมีความรู้เกี่ยวกับการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสานแทนการปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ โดยรวมมีความรู้มาก (ค่าเฉลี่ย 10.10) ด้านทัศนคติ เกษตรกรมีทัศนคติโดยรวมในระดับเห็นด้วยมาก ด้านความต้องการ โดยรวมเกษตรกรมีความต้องการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสานแทนการปลูกข้าวโพด มีความต้องการมาก ทั้ง 6 ด้าน และมีปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความต้องการส่งเสริมทำเกษตรผสมผสานแทนการปลูกข้าวโพดเลี้ยงสัตว์ของเกษตรกรอำเภอแม่แจ่ม จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ โดยเป็นตัวแปรที่มีผลทางบวก ได้แก่ อายุ สถานภาพการสมรส อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ที่.05 และ ทัศนคติ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ที่ .01 ปัญหาอุปสรรค ด้านการเตรียมพื้นที่ระดับปัญหาอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง เนื่องจากลักษณะภูมิประเทศของอำเภอแม่แจ่มที่เป็นพื้นที่สูงและมีความลาดชัน ทำให้การปรับพื้นที่เพื่อทำเกษตรผสมผสาน ต้นทุนสูงและต้องใช้เวลานานในการดำเนินการ สภาพดินที่ผ่านการปลูกข้าวโพดมาอย่างต่อเนื่องมักมีปัญหาความเสื่อมโทรมของดิน เนื่องจากการใช้สารเคมีและการเผาเศษวัสดุทางการเกษตร
